Wisdom Teeth Extractions in Brampton

Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Wisdom teeth usually come in during the late teens or early twenties. Sometimes they fit just fine. Other times, there isn’t enough room, or the teeth grow in at an angle. When that happens, removal is often the best way to protect your mouth from future problems.

Why Wisdom Teeth are Taken Out

Impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth can create ongoing issues. You might notice swelling at the back of your mouth, repeated infections, or pressure against other teeth. Cavities can also form more easily because wisdom teeth are harder to clean. In some cases, cysts may develop around them.

Not everyone needs removal. At Brampton Dental Arts, we take X-rays and check how your wisdom teeth are positioned. If they look stable and healthy, we may simply keep an eye on them.

The Procedure Itself

Before extraction, we’ll review your medical history and discuss options for keeping you comfortable. Local anesthetic is always used. If you’re nervous about the appointment, sedation is available.

Depending on the position of the tooth, removal may be quick and straightforward, or it may require a small surgical opening. Sometimes the tooth is removed in sections to make things easier on surrounding bone and gums. Stitches may be placed, but they often dissolve on their own.

Recovery and Healing

Mild swelling and soreness are normal for a few days. An ice pack and rest usually help. We’ll give you detailed instructions, which include avoiding straws and smoking, eating softer foods, and rinsing gently after the first day. Most patients start feeling back to normal in less than a week.

Why Early Removal Helps

Addressing wisdom teeth before they cause damage can prevent pain, infection, and shifting of nearby teeth. It also makes the procedure and healing process simpler compared to waiting until problems get worse.
