Comprehensive Dental Exams

A dental exam is more than a quick glance at your teeth. It’s a chance to pause, understand what’s happening in your mouth, and make choices that protect your long-term health. At Brampton Dental Arts, comprehensive exams are designed to be clear and comfortable. You’ll never feel rushed, and you’ll always leave with answers.

What a Comprehensive Exam Covers

During your visit, we’ll take a close look at your teeth, gums, and bite. Old fillings or crowns are checked to be sure they’re holding up. We look for signs of cavities, gum changes, clenching, or anything that could point to trouble down the road. If extra information is needed, digital X-rays give us a safe, detailed view beneath the surface.

Screening for Oral Cancer

Every exam also includes a screening for oral cancer. We carefully check the lips, cheeks, tongue, and soft tissues, as well as the neck and throat. Most people never notice anything unusual, but spotting small changes early can make a big difference. If we do see something that requires follow-up, we’ll explain it clearly and help guide next steps.

How Often Should You Come In?

For many patients, exams every six months are enough. Others may need them more often, especially if they’ve had gum disease, are on certain medications, or wear braces. Instead of one rule for everyone, we recommend a schedule that makes sense for your situation.

Care for the Whole Family

Exams look different depending on your stage of life. Children need a focus on growth and cavity prevention, while teenagers may need planning around wisdom teeth or mouthguards for sports. Adults often have questions about restorations, and seniors may benefit from closer monitoring of gums and existing dental work. We adjust the exam to what matters most at each age.

Digital X-Rays When Needed

X-rays aren’t routine for every visit. They’re taken when we need more detail to see between teeth, under restorations, or around roots and bone. When they are recommended, we explain why, so you understand the benefit before we proceed.

After the Exam

The goal is for you to leave knowing exactly where things stand. Sometimes the plan is simply to return at your next cleaning. Other times, we may suggest a filling, a root canal, or another treatment. Whatever the case, we’ll walk through your options, answer your questions, and give you time to decide.
